Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I don't normally like mystery/thriller type books, as they're usually pretty predictable. This one was very well done, much better than Girl on the Train and way beyond Gone Girl but I think fans of either of those books will love this one.

Review: Altered Carbon
Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Aside from a few tiny details that reminded me of The Matrix, this was a very cool and imaginative story. I really enjoyed inhabiting this world for a while. Will definitely read the subsequent books.

Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brené Brown

A refreshing call for fairness and kindness at a time when we've never been more divided.

Review: The Power
The Power by Naomi Alderman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Quite the metaphor for how things are going with women right now.
Wow. Just wow. The overwhelmingly good reviews are all justified.

Review: The Jesus Cow
The Jesus Cow by Michael Perry
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I thought this might be a good read for the Christmas season but it's a Christmas book in the same way It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas movie. It's really just Christmas adjacent. Still....good read for any time of the year. I'm a big fan of Perry's books, he's a gem of a storyteller. It was interesting to read him in the novel format.

Brutal, but well told. Gotta admit I kept looking for more after the end.

Review: Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It took me a little bit longer to get into this book than I thought it would. I did end up getting invested I. The characters and story and liked it quite a bit. I think my main hangup was due to comparing it to the movie. If you can stop yourself from doing that, it's much more enjoyable. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this DC series.

Death in the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City by Kate Winkler Dawson

Felt like there was not enough material for either story so the two were smashed together. Epilogue felt very rushed.

Review: The Fiery Cross
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
There was a dumb little thing that bothered me. She had mosquitoes and lightning bugs active in late March/early April. Maybe they hatch early in the east, but that would not happen in the Midwest. Then, later in the book, it mentions May being too early for mosquitoes. What the....
Anyway, I do really love this series. You have to to keep reading booking that are about a thousand pages each. It makes me wonder how long they are before her editor gets a hold of them.

Review: Mudbound
Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had a bit of trouble keeping the characters straight at the beginning but ended up loving the way the story was told. I hope Netflix did it justice.
