Autumn Princess, Dragon Child by Lian Hearn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I didn't like this one as much as the first book. It felt like the events that furthered the story were sped along and glossed over to progress the story as fast as possible. There was a distinct lack of detail. That said, it still held my interest because the idea behind it is interesting and I still want to see what happens.

Review: The Emperor of the Eight Islands
The Emperor of the Eight Islands by Lian Hearn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed Hearn's previous books, Tales of the Otori, so I was looking forward to reading these. Since this is an extended tale, you can't really judge one book on the quality of the whole story. So far, this is a really good set up. The characters are interesting. The plot is believable. And the elements of the supernatural keep you on your toes and knowing you may really know nothing about the plot drivers. Very cool device. Looking forward to reading the rest.

Review: Six of Crows
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
This book is a pale shadow when held up next to Bardugo's books from her first series. Not sure I want to bother with the next book. I guess I'll wait to see some reviews before I decide.

Review: The Good Girl
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
One of these days I'll learn my lesson and stay away from this genre. I just didn't see what the big deal was about this book.

Review: Star Wars: Bloodline
Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I haven't read a lot of the non-movie books in the Star Wars canon. The few I've read haven't overly impressed me. This one is this the best I've read so far. It ends shortly before Episode VII begins so you get the story that leads up to that point. It's very political, which makes it interesting to read right now, as the inanity seems to be universal.
One element I enjoyed seeing touched on (since I first heard it mentioned in Kevin Smith's Clerks) was the discussion of collateral damage and civilian casualties that were incurred during all the past fighting.
The only problem I had with this book (minor spoiler) is that there is a terrorist attack that is referred to as the "napkin bombing." Just not a good name.

Review: Legacy of Kings
Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was an interesting take on the story. As with a lot of historical fiction that draws me in, it made me want to read more non-fiction about the times and the characters. I already have book to on my to-read list and am curious to see how this version of events moves along. Fun, entertaining read.
