In the Labyrinth of Drakes by Marie Brennan

First off, the font is red. I don't know how common an issue this is but it was hard on my eyes to read in that color. I found it harder to focus on the words. Bad choice.

This book was a lot slower to start than the others in the series. There was more intrigue than action. The ending was a bit Indiana Jones, though, so the wait was worthwhile.
