The Cowboy and the Vampire: A Very Unusual RomanceThe Cowboy and the Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance by Clark Hays

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Well, this was different. If you want to read something that you don't have to think too much about and just be entertained, this is a decent choice. The stuff written from the vampire perspective was appropriately and predictably stuffy. The portions written from the cowboy's perspective was very funny and a nice change. It was a good mixture. I have book 2 on my kindle and I will definitely check it out when I need something to lighten my mood.

 I received a free ebook from netgalley.com.

Sinful FolkSinful Folk by Ned Hayes

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book made me very grateful I live now. Life as a woman has never been easy (still a struggle in many places) but it was a real challenge when the slightest oddity of behavior could have you killed as a witch. This story was quite compelling, the characters very well-carved. It had a bit of a grim Grimm tale feel to it. I wish I could have seen the illustrations but they were not included in the ebook version I got from NetGalley.

What I Was Doing While You Were BreedingWhat I Was Doing While You Were Breeding by Kristin Newman

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I figured I'd relate to this book a bit when I saw the title. My life hasn't been quite as well-traveled but I understand the dynamic of all your friends pairing off and forming families. I really enjoyed this book. It's very funny and entertaining and I've already recommended it to a few of my friends.

The Ballad of a Small PlayerThe Ballad of a Small Player by Lawrence Osborne

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It took me a while to get interested in this book, the characters but I got sucked in by the Poe-like quality of storytelling about half way through. Plus, it was interesting learning about baccarat.

The Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic PerformanceThe Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance by David Epstein

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I guess I was expecting something different from this book. Maybe more stories about specific athletes (and there were plenty, don't get me wrong). As a layperson who is just interested in fitness, I found all the science overwhelming. It was interesting but I felt my brain getting foggy if I read for too long a stretch.
