I really enjoyed Hearn's previous books, Tales of the Otori, so I was looking forward to reading these. Since this is an extended tale, you can't really judge one book on the quality of the whole story. So far, this is a really good set up. The characters are interesting. The plot is believable. And the elements of the supernatural keep you on your toes and knowing you may really know nothing about the plot drivers. Very cool device. Looking forward to reading the rest.
